Turning 70

I turned seventy just before Christmas. I was born at an inconvenient time of year…for everyone else…in a small town in the west of Ireland. I was born at home, which wasn’t unusual at the time, the youngest of four children. As was the custom in an Irish Catholic family, I was christened two days later, lest I die and be consigned to Limbo. On Christmas Eve, my father valiantly struggled to pluck the goose, a gift from my grandmother. Eventually, my mother had to rise from her bed to finish the job. You see, my arrival really was inconvenient !

Now, seventy years on, I am retired in native county. I am lucky enough to have a view of the sea and have been blessed in so many ways.

The purpose of this blog is to celebrate life with gratitude and to track the seventy ways I hope to celebrate this milestone over the coming year.
